Backstreet's Back

Thanks to the encouragement of Jorge, one of my best friends and the man that I would marry if he were at all sexually interested in my gender, I'm revisiting the blogging world.

So it's been a year and a half

and if you're in the loop, you know that its been quite the roller coaster.

if you're not,  don't worry cause I'll fill in the gaps eventually.

For now: my name is Sarah, I'm 19 years old, and I attend DePaul University in Chicago.

If you previously read this blog, you might have noticed that I changed the name.
It used to be titled "Keep Calm and Carry On" after the war morale campaign in the UK at the beginning of WWII. Citizens of the United Kingdom lived in daily fear of strategic bombing in their own backyard. In order to deal with the civil crisis caused by living in a war zone, the Government used this motto to unite the people psychologically so that they could survive physically.

Similarly, September 11, 2001 was an incredibly traumatic experience for the United States of America. With nearly 3,000 direct victims and every American citizen effected by the loss of loved ones or fellow patriots, 9/11 has been recorded as one of the greatest wartime tragedies in the USA.

9/11 is also the closest thing that present day Americans have to experiencing a war fought on our turf. I'm not arguing that 9/11 wasn't horrifying, but I don't think Americans will ever understand what it's like to have your country turned into an international battleground for an extended period of time. We have experienced great loss of life in conflict over the past 150 years, but Americans that were born later than the Civil War do not understand what it is like to have your homeland torn apart by war.

Raised by an emphatically English mother, uprooted from her homeland and relocated in a country that  will never live up to The Queen's standards, we are well versed and almost obsessive about all things British. Unfortunately, since the conception of this blog, variations of "Keep Calm and Carry On" have turned into the hottest teen trend since YOLO, diminishing the uniting power of the original motto. (See visual aids below)

So even though it is not my place to criticize pop culture, considering I'm listening to Taylor Swift's new catchy single as I write this, I have always maintained that my blog is where my opinons don't have to make sense or align with any sort of image that I'm trying to upkeep.

I have renamed the blog "All Things Go, All Things Go" after lyrics from the Sufjan Stevens song "Chicago." I felt that it was appropriate because Chicago is the greatest city in the world and Sufjan is one of the greatest musicians to come out of this concrete jungle.

Stick with me, and I promise to bring full disclosure to this relationship.
Or just kind of skim this once and move on to Pinterest.

I'm clearly writing for an audience, otherwise I would keep a private journal as opposed to a public blog. However, this does function as a place for me to organize my thoughts and therapeutically deal with my demons so to speak. If no one reads this anymore, then thus is life.

Fresh in my nikes

Chester died today.
I swear, I leave him home with my parents for 2 days and he dies.

This past weekend
was absolutely nuts.

Wait why is Ronnie from Jersey Shore on a late night weight loss infomercial?
Skins is a really weird show.
Elton John is a real character.
I'm either in denial and it hasn't hit me yet, or I'm handling this surprisingly well.
I can't remember the last time i was up till 1:30.
That previous statement was meant in two ways.
2 weeks till lax get crunk

DOUBBLE SNOW DAY

This is the best week ever.

I have to write a paper on a book I haven't read
and I had a thesis idea, but I decided it was more important to respond to a few texts and check facebook
so I forgot it, and now I'm blogging about it.
I have a problem.

In your love, my salvation lies in your love.

SNOWPOCALYPSE

It's real guys, duck and cover.
jk lolz but I'm snowed in.
I guess this is what I have to look forward to next year.
The best part? I didn't go to school Monday and I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that school will also be closed tomorrow so I have a 3, maybe 2 day week.

Houskeeping

1. I am America (And So Can You!) came today. I will be reading Friday-Monday while I am in
2.  Marco Island! for semester break, thank the lord.
3. I'm 99% positive i have ADD. Not in the casual joking way that we use it in conversation. But legit Attention Deficit Disorder.
4. I'm pretty sure itunes releases a new terms of agreement every day.
5. What is this Ping business? And why does it know where I live?
I'm refusing to join because:
a. I've been raised to be very skeptical about giving out my full name and current location.  Hypocritically, however, I'm on Facebook. And I've stated my full name and current location on this blog. So this is really not a valid reason at all.
b. I like more than three genres of music and I'm appalled that Ping deems me incapable of such depth.
c. I'm lazy.

The title of this post is completely irrelevant to the subject matter.

"Once you realize that this is a fickle world," says baby-faced Mumford & Sons' singer-guitarist Marcus Mumford, "you also realize that for your own sake, the best thing to do is to just write songs you believe in. Hopefully, the rest takes care of itself."

Christmas

is coming,
the goose is getting fat
please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny,
a ha'penny will do,
and if you havent got a ha'penny
then God bless you.

ACCEPTED

After the prolonged application process, I am officially accepted in the Syracuse class of 2015.
But, true to form, my acceptance was anything but normal.
I have yet to recieve an acceptance letter or email.

So most of you know that most colleges have a website where you can create an account and check the status of your application, etc.  And on "MySlice" which is Cuse's site, there has been a link that said something like "Accept Acceptance Form" but more eloquent than that.  Now, for the last few months, my mom or I have occasionally clicked that link just to see what happens. (Dane Cook voice...if you don't know what I'm talking about, this is embarrasing.) Upon clicking the link, the website takes you to a page that said something along the lines of "You are not authorized to view this page." Untill today, that is.

My mom clicked the link this evening at about 7:00 P.M Central time and low and behold, a form showed up with my name, student ID, school, and major.  Curriously, mother and I filled out all of the other information that it asked for.  It came down to the last page (the deposit, of course) and the form stated that upon confirming the payment, I was officially matriculated at Syracuse University. Baddaboombaddabimg, I'm in.

Like daffodils in motherfucking spring.

It looks like this might be the year that I break the cycle.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry about it
but it's still early, so who knows.

In other news, the Guminski Christmas lights will be going up this weekend.

Aaaand I'm not doing any homework tonight.
I'm very bored. Who wants to spice up my life?
